Myrtle the turtle character is introduced to the story to portray the circle of life of endangered sea turtles in an interesting fun and educational way.

This is an environmentally correct story of a Loggerhead sea turtle named Myrtle. It is written and illustrated to be interesting, fun and educational. From the moment she is hatched from her egg deep in the sands of a tropical beach, Myrtle is met by challenges and dangers that confront all young sea turtles. As she enters the surf her life’s story begins and is filled with excitement and discovery over thousands of miles of seaweed, oceans, coral reefs and tropical isles. As Myrtle grows up she encounters the perils of life in the sea, but one day meets a special friend and finds romance. When it is time for Myrtle to make her own nest, she travels back to the same stretch of beach from where she was born to lay her own clutch of eggs.

Sea turtle endangerment is emphasized to help children appreciate the need to protect them. Illustrations of sea turtles that frequent Florida’s shores, their crawl back tracks, eggs and nesting at night are depicted in the story for educational reasons.

AUTHOR - PAUL LOWERY is a retired business executive that makes his home along the Gulf Coast of Florida. The inspiration for this story was prompted by a suggestion by his wife Betty, recalling when Paul and his grandson Jeremy had seen a large sea turtle while deep sea fishing in the Gulf of Mexico years earlier.

ILLUSTRATOR - TIM THOMAS is a children’s book illustrator and assists authors in publishing their books. Tim is compelled to capture the natural environment as seen through the eyes of child. He is partial to promote his home state of Florida and its coasts through his illustrations in the books he publishes. For many of these images, the scenic majesty of the Gulf and all its bays, rivers and tributaries he feels is absolutely superior. Tim resides in Northwest Florida with his wife Terri and son Tanis .
